// Industries / E-commerce & Retail

Commerce systems that hold up on the busiest day.

Storefronts and checkouts engineered for peak traffic, stock that cannot oversell, catalogue and product-feed systems that scale, and the technical SEO that faceted navigation usually destroys.

Vertical Loaded v2.4.0 BUILD / DESIGN / GROW

The Problems We Actually Get Called About

Retail engineering failures are almost always concentrated in three places: stock, checkout, and the day traffic spikes.

[01] problem

Overselling On The Last Unit

Two customers reach checkout for the same final item. Without a reservation with a time limit, the order is created and the refund is your customer service problem.

[02] problem

The Site Falls On Launch Day

Autoscaling the application is not the same as surviving a real peak. Cold starts, cache stampedes and unindexed queries are what actually break.

[03] problem

Catalogue Complexity

Variants, bundles, size guides, regional pricing and tax, marketplace and direct channels. The catalogue model is the actual product.

[04] problem

Checkout Leakage

Every extra field, redirect, wallet exclusion and step costs completed orders. Address forms that fail validation silently are a top cause.

[05] problem

Parameter Explosion In Search

Faceted navigation generates near-infinite URLs. Crawled and indexed carelessly, they burn crawl budget and let duplicate content outrank your category pages.

[06] problem

Feed And Marketplace Operations

GTIN and UPC mapping, taxonomy mismatches, image licensing rules and disapproval notices. Channel compliance is a recurring operational cost.

What We Build Here

Commerce touches every module, which is why retail engagements are usually our broadest scopes.

build active

BUILD: Commerce Core

Storefront, cart and checkout, stock reservation and reservation expiry, order management, returns, and incremental product-feed generation to every channel you sell on.

StorefrontOrdersFeeds

DESIGN: Product And Checkout

Category and product page information architecture, size and variant presentation, a checkout that explains itself, and a design system shared with the brand site.

GROW: Discoverability And Demand

Technical SEO for large catalogues, feed-driven shopping visibility, lifecycle journeys for browse and cart intent, and structured CRO on the paths that produce revenue.

Constraints And Where We Stop

Retail has a surprising amount of legal and financial surface area. None of it is ours to adjudicate.

PCI DSS Scope Is Not Ours

Where card data touches your systems determines your PCI DSS scope, and hosted fields or embedded components exist to keep that scope small. We integrate a processor you choose. We do not scope, assess or attest PCI DSS. Your acquirer and a qualified security assessor do that.

Tax, Duty And Facilitator Rules

VAT, sales tax, IOSS and marketplace facilitator obligations are legal and accounting determinations. We implement the rules you and your accountant specify, correctly and testably. We do not advise on which rules apply.

Accessibility Is Usually Obligatory

Online storefronts are commonly required to meet WCAG conformance levels, and consumer protection regimes treat accessibility as a legal duty. We build and test to a stated WCAG level, including keyboard paths and screen-reader passes. The conformance determination and any accessibility statement are yours to make.

Fulfilment And Returns Stay With You

Warehousing, picking, shipping and physical returns are operations, not software. We build the software that records and triggers them, including RMA and refund-to-original-tender logic, but we do not run a logistics operation.

Technical Decisions That Matter Here

The order and inventory path is the part of a commerce system that must be correct. Everything else can be iterated.

[01] technical

Reservation, Not Counting

Stock is reserved at basket or checkout with a time limit and released when it expires. A decrement-and-hope counter is where overselling starts.

[02] technical

The Payment Webhook Is The Truth

Order state follows processor webhooks, not the browser return. The client is told what it is told; the server reconciles against signed events with idempotent handling.

[03] technical

Prices Computed Server-Side

Cart and order totals are recalculated on the server from current catalogue, promotion and tax inputs. Client-side totals are display only.

[04] technical

Caching That Knows What Not To Cache

Catalogue pages cache at the CDN with stale-while-revalidate. Cart, checkout and account pages never cache. Getting this boundary wrong is how pricing leaks.

[05] technical

Feeds Are Incremental

Large catalogues generate product feeds incrementally from a change log rather than rebuilding from scratch on a schedule. Include and exclusion rules are versioned.

[06] technical

A Crawl Policy For Filters

Decided in writing: which parameters are linkable, which are canonicalised away, which are noindex, and how pagination and sort are handled. This is written before the templates are built, not after.

Catalogue And Platform Audit

Current platform, catalogue complexity, channel mix, traffic shape and integration inventory. The output is a migration or rebuild recommendation with the reasoning written down.

phase_02

Core Build

The main fixed-fee tranche: storefront, cart, checkout, order management and the inventory path, with the crawl policy designed in from the first template.

phase_03

Peak Readiness

Load testing against a realistic traffic profile, caching and CDN configuration, deploy rollback, and a named runbook for launch weekend.

retainer

Seasonal Support

A separately priced retainer covering peak preparation, ongoing iteration, feed and channel maintenance, and CRO work after live data exists.

Who This Is Not For

Better to know before a proposal than after.

No Fulfilment Capability

We build commerce software. If nothing physically ships, picks or returns, the hard half of the business is still unsolved.

Marketplace Without A Facilitator

Selling on a marketplace that requires a licensed facilitator relationship is a commercial and legal negotiation first. We build the software around the agreement you have.

Chasing A Conversion Guarantee

We do not publish conversion guarantees or uplift percentages. We will tell you what we think the constraint is and what we would test.

Zero Engineering Involvement

Commerce systems accumulate catalogue, tax, returns and channel exceptions indefinitely. Someone on your side has to own the rules we implement.
